The next Acura NSX is already in the works, with a production timeline set to happen within a few years. The confirmation came from Shinji Aoyama, global executive vice president of Honda, during a media round table interview at the Monterey Car Week, Motor1 reports.

Launched in the mid-1980s, Acura is to Honda what Lexus is to Toyota. Honda created it with the intention of penetrating the North American market and has never sold its Ohio-made cars in Japan, although this was a consideration before the 200-2008 financial crisis. Shortly after its birth in 1986, the automaker quickly became a thorn in the sides of premium automakers like Mercedes-Benz and BMW. In America, the Honda NSX was sold with an Acura badge, and that's a great relation for affordable everyday heroes like the Integra Type S.

While the automaker previously confirmed that the automaker is going to build an electric sports car, this recent confirmation specifically mentioned that it will be a model that harkens to the defunct nameplate. "We are going to introduce a sports model in 2027 or 2028. We may not call it an NSX, but it's kind of an NSX-type of vehicle," Aoyama said in the interview.
