GM has been the second carmaker to back Tesla's initiative to impose the NACS port as the North American default charger. However, its EVs have been late getting Supercharger access, with Rivian already letting its customers charge at Tesla chargers. This has now been corrected, but GM is still a step behind, forcing owners to buy their own adapters.
 
GM has been the second carmaker to announce support for Tesla's NACS charge plug, following Ford. In June 2023, Mary Barra announced the deal as a personal victory. She later revealed the conditions Tesla set to allow GM EV owners access to its chargers, claiming they would not pay more than Tesla owners. This was only partly true, as it was later revealed. GM owners pay the same tariff per kWh as Tesla owners only after subscribing to a monthly plan.
