During the 1980s, Volkswagen sold the effortlessly cool Scirocco all over the world, including in the USA, racking up hundreds and thousands of orders for the small-yet-stylish hatchback. The model was discontinued in the early 1990s, only to once again reappear with a similar technical concept to the original, albeit now for a modern 21st century audience. There was one catch though – Americans were to do without, but why?
 
It's a puzzling question, as the original Scirocco sold well within that period, and continues to be admired and collected in the USA to this day. There are many reasons as to why we think Volkswagen messed up by keeping the Scirocco out of America, and we've detailed them below.
