There is no secret that electric vehicles are fast in every conceivable way, and generally speaking faster than most ICE cars out there. There is a trend and a competition between carmakers now to see which EV is the fastest – and on the Tsukuba Circuit in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, that title goes to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

The famous Japanese track is where over the past weekend the so-called Attack Tsukuba 2025 event took place. As part of the racing that took place there, a Time Attack-modified Ioniq 5 N was sent to the track under the control of Japanese professional driver, Nobuteru Taniguchi, and rapidly became the one to achieve the fastest lap time of any competitors.

The car managed to complete a full run of the circuit in 57.446 seconds, making it the fastest electric vehicle to ever lap the circuit. That, says Hyundai, was almost two seconds faster than its closest competitor (not named), despite the fact that the car's motors, battery, and control electronics were production components.
