The California New Car Dealers Association is demanding that American Honda Motor and Sony Honda Mobility immediately stop direct-to-consumer sales of its Afeela electric sedan, saying they are violating state law.
 
The joint venture between the Japanese automotive and electronics giants has begun taking deposits from California residents for the Afeela 1, the first EV from the brand expected to arrive in early 2026.
 
Cutting Honda and Acura dealers out of the opportunity to sell the Afeela 1 violates state franchise laws prohibiting manufacturers and their affiliates from directly competing with their dealers, according to the association.
