Save for an electric version dubbed iX5, the next generation of the hugely popular X5 will not differ much from the outgoing model under the skin. The big changes are reserved for the interior, where you will find the new Panoramic Display dominating the upper part of the dashboard.
Located between the dash top and the bottom of the windshield, the Panoramic Display stretches from pillar to pillar. As you can tell from the lack of a digital instrument cluster, it's a somewhat polarizing development.
Even more polarizing is the lack of an iDrive controller. BMW made it clear that iDrive X puts an emphasis on touch and voice controls in lieu of good ol' physical buttons. Haptic buttons are featured on the steering wheel, which is rocking a new design for BMW. Its red 12 o'clock marker and M stitching indicate an M Performance model.
