Most people rely on Google Maps to navigate from where they are to where they want to be faster, safer, and more conveniently. However, two burglars from India discovered an unusual benefit in the data provided by Google's app.
The two criminals, who were arrested last week after a complex covert operation, used Google Maps to look for targets.
This approach isn't new. Google's Street View, a service that is also bundled with Google Maps, allows users to explore neighborhoods and other regions through street-level imagery. The photos are captured by vehicles fitted with high-resolution cameras and then stitched together to create a 360-degree view of a specific region.
