Volkswagen appears to be experiencing cash flow problems again, and some cost-cutting decisions are being considered. Among the first affected will be Scout Motors' EVs, which were reportedly put on the back burner. Instead, Scout Motors will start sales with the range-extender (EREV) variants, which are considered better suited for the current market conditions.
 
In 2021, Volkswagen discovered that the legendary brand Scout had landed in its courtyard with the acquisition of Navistar International. One year later, it confirmed that Scout would be revived as an EV-only brand and the spearhead of Volkswagen's efforts to conquer the US market. At the time, EVs were all the rage, and the decision made a lot of sense.
