To keep customers loyal as the Escape is phased out, Ford is offering private rebates of up to $10,000 off for current Escape owners who upgrade to a new Explorer. Targeted private offers, combined with employee pricing programs at participating dealers, effectively bridge the $10,000 price gap between a base Escape and a base Explorer.
The Ford Explorer has been on the market since March 1990, when it launched as a 1991 model year. Originally introduced to replace the then-ageing Bronco II, it has since gone through six generations, evolving from a rugged, truck-based SUV into a modern unibody crossover.
