Paul Pelosi, the 86-year-old husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, has been charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run following a Friday afternoon collision in the heart of Napa Valley.
According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a hit-and-run around 2:30 p.m. on July 3, 2026, in the 6700 block of Yount Street in Yountville. Witnesses described a brown convertible that struck an unoccupied parked vehicle and then drove away without stopping.
A witness provided key information that helped authorities locate the vehicle. Deputies later found the brown convertible with significant front-right damage, partially blocking the roadway on nearby Yountville Cross Road. Pelosi was behind the wheel.
When questioned, he admitted hitting something but told deputies he had not realized it was a car. Investigators determined that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. No injuries were reported, and Pelosi was not taken into custody at the scene.
The case has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for formal review and charging. Authorities also plan to submit a referral to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for a re-evaluation of Pelosi’s driving privileges.
This incident marks another traffic-related matter for Pelosi in Napa County. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence causing injury after a separate crash involving his Porsche near Yountville.
Misdemeanor hit-and-run charges in California generally apply to property-damage collisions where the driver fails to stop and exchange information. Penalties can include fines, probation, community service, and potential license restrictions or suspension, depending on the circumstances and any prior record.
Yountville, a small upscale town known for its renowned restaurants and proximity to world-class vineyards, draws visitors year-round. The collision occurred on a busy Friday afternoon in this popular wine-country destination.
As of Saturday, officials had not released details about the extent of damage to the parked vehicle or statements from the other vehicle’s owner. The investigation remains ongoing, with the district attorney’s office expected to review evidence in the coming days.
Pelosi’s connection to one of America’s most prominent political families continues to draw public attention to the case. Nancy Pelosi represented California’s 11th congressional district for decades and served multiple terms as Speaker of the House.
