Dear 001,

Just as you predicted, Jaguar is indeed building the RD6 prototype.

Jagaur is working on a new steel and aluminium rear-wheel-drive chassis that will be the basis of the new X-Type range due for release in around two-years time, and to make things even better, the platform will also spawn a baby roadster (like the Z4) and the RD6 coupe!

The X-Type saloon and estate will lose the 4x4 system currently employed in favor of rear-wheel-drive handling & feel which a number of drivers claim they are missing. Sylish Jaguarness will remain, but build quality will jump to XJ standards, as will trim levels. It is uncertain which engines will be used, some say modified versions of the existing range, others suggest Volvo or Land Rover units.

The platform has incredible possibilities and this re-engineering from existing building blocks (like Mercedes has done with the C-Class, Coupe and SLK) happily means that the much awaited F-Type sports car and RD6 Coupe CAN, WILL and ARE being developed from the new chassis.

Jaguar marketing men have seen a need to spawn a host of models from the new platform to generate much needed business.

One insider told me they are well aware that a wealthy family may have a C-Class and SLK in the household - and at the moment Jag buyers must look elsewhere for a coupe or roadster. He said we must stop the exodus.

Personally I can't wait. I'll keep you informed number 1.
