During a recent conversation in sunny Zuffenhausen my Porsche mole revealed to me that despite the new 997 (911) being over 80% new bits, the whole roof section is from the existing car!
I was told that this was because re-engineering the roof and sun-roof sections would be very expensive. When I asked if it also meant that the Targa systems could also be easilly refitted, my source went very quiet indeed.
He said Porsche was ditching the big glass roof on the new cars because of poor sales, but bearing in mind how simple it would be to re-fit the parts, could this mean that the Targa is going to make it onto the product list after all?
