Porsche Cayenne-Impressions from a large Porsche dealer
Is it a hit or a miss?
001,
I just returned from Italy after driving the Cayenne there for a few days. I think you guys will be very impressed when you drive it. I was very impressed, however I am bit biased.
First of all the look of the vehicle is really nice in person. Porsche is offering some great colors both interior and exterior and the quality is first rate. When you get in the drivers seat and close the door you feel how substantial the vehicle is. The doors are heavy and have a very tight seal. Interior room is wonderful. I am 6'2" and can straight leg with the seat all the way back and still have ample rear passenger room. The dash has all the electronic accessories that one would expect, yet they are very simple to use and all well within reach of the driver. The Navigation system seems easier to use, however we didn't have the chance utilize it much. The center console is just the right height and width to accommodate both front seat passengers. Cup holder's are placed in front of the console between the front seats. I was really impressed on how comfortable the car is. Lots of room in all area's.
Performance is 100% Porsche. The S version is fast and nimble and the Turbo is like your favorite roller coaster. Brakes are the best I have felt in a SUV by far. We drove the vehicles off road through tidal pools and deep sand on the beach, then went up the side of a mountain over loose rocks and steep inclines. Going down the other side of the mountain in low range was a cinch. The next day we drove both S and Turbo models on the highway for about 45 minutes to a obstacle track at the Cagliari Port. We each did two laps around track then switched vehicles to either the Mercedes ML500, Lexus LX470, Range Rover or BMW X5. Both Porsche models were leaps and bounds better than the competition.
I think you will be impressed with amount and the quality of the accessories available as well. I really liked the adjustable ski rack that can be maneuvered to the side of the vehicle for easy loading and unloading. There are a lot options available for the customer so that they can customize the vehicle to their liking.
There was talk that Porsche is designing a third seat option as well. They must have read your article! In closing I feel confident that you and your readers will be impressed with the product. Make no mistake, this is not a copy of a vehicle for sale today. It is as they say "The First of its Kind"
Thank you,
