Who wins the battle? Maybach or Rolls-Royce?

The Spies survey 1500 people at the Auto show for the answer

Who wins the Auto Spies survey?

Maybach or Rolls?

During our visit to the Detroit Auto show we surveyed about 1500 people at the show asking them which car they preferred (not scientific).

The results surprised us, especially from women.

About 65% of the men we surveyed preferred the Maybach compared to 35% for the Rolls.

On the other hand, 90% of women, preferred the Maybach.

Some of the comments we heard about the cars were (exact quotes):

“I love the Maybach, it looks so elegant compared to the Rolls”

“I like the Rolls because it has more presence”

“I liked the Rolls better, you know exactly what it is when it drives up”

“I didn’t like the Rolls, it looks almost ‘cartoon like’”

“The Maybach looks too much like another S-class”

“The Rolls looks old and stodgy looking”

"The maybach is more modern and has better toys and gadgets"

Results of our web survey:

Now that you've seen them, which car would you choose if money were no object?

New Maybach

49.6%

New Rolls-Royce

30.9%

Both cars are great, it's a tie

5.8%

Both cars are a letdown

13.7%

Auto spies pick:

Maybach

We prefer the Maybach’s more elegant (stealth) design over the more up front look of the Rolls. If we had to buy one for our daily “chauffeured” driver, we’d pick the Maybach. There is WAY more passenger room, and the reclining first class seating is one of the most fantastic features on a car.

We think the cars will attract two different buyers. If you want to get noticed and be like P. Diddy, the Rolls IS your car. If you want the functionality and comfort going from Connecticut to Manhattan on a regular basis and you’re the CEO of a company, the Maybach is for you.

But, do we believe EITHER of these cars are worth $350K? NOT!

In our estimation, after seeing these vehicles in person, is that they’re $175-$200K cars at best.
