3 Series to boost BMW sales

AUTO Bavaria Sdn Bhd, the largest BMW dealer in Malaysia, is confident of achieving at least 22% increase in total sales this year with the launch of the new BMW 3 Series model coming on the back of a successful first quarter.

Auto Bavaria said it had already received more than 100 bookings for the new BMW 3 Series even before the cars were available for viewing and prices not announced.

The figure is expected to increase substantially when Auto Bavaria holds a carnival-like new BMW 3 Series test drive event this weekend in Kuala Lumpur for its Klang Valley prospects. Test drive events will also be held simultaneously at Auto Bavaria branches in Penang, Johor Baru, Kuantan and Kuching.

Auto Bavaria reported a strong first quarter performance in 2005 with sales totalling 552 units, up 31% compared with the first three months of last year. Sales in 2004 totalled 1,819 units, up 21% from 2003. Sime Darby Bhd motor group managing director Rajan Thurairatnam said sales for the first quarter of 2005 had been driven mainly by continued strong demand for the new BMW 5 Series and the current BMW 3 Series model.

According to him, the launch of the new BMW 3 Series, comprising the 320i, 325i and 330i, is set to further boost the company’s performance this year.

“This bestseller has traditionally accounted for one in every two BMWs sold in this country. The initial response has indicated that it will once again be the most popular model from the BMW stable although sales of the new BMW 5 Series that was launched last year has exceeded expectations,” he said.
