The X5, Cayenne and ML killer has finally arrived-Part 1

Last week, 001 was where the beer flows like wine, where the women instinctively flock like the salmon at Capistrano, some place warm...I was in ASPEN!!!

Ok, now you know how much of a fan I am of the movie 'Dumb and Dumber'!

Why was I in Aspen?

To test the 2006 Range Rover Sport.

What a great experience!







Myself and the rest of the automotive press traveled from Aspen to Moab, Utah where we got to sample the Sport on both highway and off-road runs.

And I say off-road, I’m not kidding!

We were crawling rocks that were so steep, when I was looking out the windshield, I could only see the sky!

All in all, my impressions of the vehicle are VERY positive.

I believe the competitors like the X5, Cayenne (Turbo excluded) and ML have A LOT to worry about.

This bad boy is the real deal!

If it were my choice between all of these vehicles, I would without question pick the Range Rover Sport first.

It has a both great driving characteristics and amazing off-road prowess.

And from a design standpoint (both inside and out) I think it puts the others to shame.

The X5 is no longer the best looking of the bunch.

The Sport design is important and timeless.

Don't be surprised if it runs away with all the 2006 SUV of the year awards.

My suggestion: If you want one, you’d better hit a dealer fast and get your deposit down. Cause this sweet ride, is gonna sell like French fries at McDonalds. I like the 390HP version best, but the 300HP version is no slouch. And, it looks best in BLACK!

p.s. If someone ever says they will fly you on a Lear Jet make sure there aren't more than 4 passengers (see pic in part 4)! They had eight of us, some rather large, in one back to Denver and it was very tight! And no, that's not me in the pic.
