The United States will, by September of 2009, become the recipient of the VW’s sixth-generation Golf (Rabbit) and the more performance centered GT, with manufacturing set to begin for the American-spec cars during the later part of June.

The latest Golf is anticipated to cost a little more than the retiring model, with a $250 increase in price scheduled to apply to the base level Golf and GTI variants. The enhancements consist of a fresh engine lineup and amplified availability of DSG dual-clutch transmission technologies, which can reduce fuel consumption by up to 28% in some versions.
