In June 2004, Fortune magazine featured Ford Motor Co. CEO Bill Ford Jr. as its cover boy under the headline: "It's his Ford now." The mostly glowing article said "Bill Ford never doubted he had the right stuff to revive his great grand-daddy's car company."
But Fortune's Alex Taylor III, who authored the story, took a U-turn in this month's issue. "Ford, 48, has apparently been doing some soul-searching about his ability to rescue the company that his great-grandfather started. His conclusion: Somebody else may be able to do the job better than he can.
