Toyota Motor Corp. said it will recall 160,000 of its Prius hybrid-engine cars because of possible engine problems, according to a media report.

Toyota said the recall is worldwide, the Dow Jones News Service reported.

Toyota said it plans to recall 75,000 Prius cars in the U.S., another 70,000 in Japan and the remainder in Europe, Australia and other markets, Dow Jones said.

The gasoline engines in some Prius cars overseas have stalled , causing the vehicles to operate solely on the electric motor, Dow Jones reported, adding that Toyota said a glitch in electronic control units may be responsible.

No accidents or injuries have been reported, Dow Jones said Toyota reported.
