Did anybody see the new J.D. Power Car Guide for 2003 covering both cars and trucks? I got it in the mail this weekend.
Initial Quality, Appeal Study and Vehicle Dependability Study were all bad for German car makers. In fact the Americans car makers seemed to have bested the Germans, yet still far behind the Japanese.
In initial quality not one BMW made the list - the S-Class made it following in order the LS-430, SC-430 and the GS300/430.
The BMW X5 or ML320 were not mentioned at all (what a surprise! :) ).
In vehicle dependability not one BMW car or truck.
In automotive performance execution and layout (APEAL study) the 7 Series ranked #5 after (in order) the LS-430, MB CL-CLass, MB SL-Class and the SC-430. The S-Class ranked #6. In trucks the APEAL study ranked the X5 #4 after (in order)the Escalade, Escalade EXT, LX-470. Note the GX was not in this years J.D. Powers study.
Consumer Service Index places in order: Saturn, Infiniti ,Lexus ,Cadillac, Volvo, Buick, Acura, Saab, BMW, and Lincoln.
