Mini is rumored to make a return at the World Rally Championship in 2011 with its upcoming 4×4, a crossover that’s believed to be called the Countryman and set to go on sale next year.
Powering the Mini Countryman JCW is a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, which conforms to proposed powerplants for future WRC cars. BMW ambassador, Paddy Hopkirk, who won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally in a Mini Cooper S, described the level of engineering as “amazing and very diligent.” He said further that the company doesn’t take shortcuts and that it does everything well.
