All those folks they have been selling to over the last 4 years are replacing them and the last thing they want in an Audi. Why? Service, reliability and resale. Mercedes is not particularly reliable (at least mine is not) but they shield you from the consequences by offering loaner cars and have first class service advisors (at least they dress well). A local dealer had the Audi service folk in an portable building up until a few months ago. Audi didn’t realize that there were only so many people that would take the chance and once they burned through them there wasn’t any more. Go look at the profile of the A6 2.7T buyer and compare it with the average service history of that mode. Drive great, unreliable and unbelievable service costs once out of warranty (many minor repairs require engine removal). Its not the type of car household with $200k income want to continue to drive. Once they get over the pain of incredibly low trade values at the BMW, MB or Lexus dealers they want nothing to do with an Audi. Also VW is doing much the same with their buyers and the natural source of trade up clientele is drying up. Look at the forums. Many Audi/VW owners love their car but won’t buy another. Suggest Audi follow the cars they sold and find out where they were traded in.
