How to buy the new MB E-class for below invoice We show you how and where
So your buddy tells you, he just read Edmunds.com and he found out the invoice price of the new E-class and his buddy who sells them, will sell you one for $1500 over...sounds good, right?
The Spies say, just hold on a minute, before you throw away $1500-$3500 dollars that you don't have to.
The extra money will come in handy in the next few weeks when we implement our subscription only feature.
001 and 002 were in the market for the new car (can you believe it?) :) and we decided to see what's happening out there, regarding prices.
After considering that maybe the new E-class, could do in a pinch, for the next 3 or 4 months or so, 001 started to get price quotes...
Well let me tell you, there is trouble brewing under the three pointed star.
Most dealers are sitting on huge inventories that AREN'T moving.
Five different Southern California MB dealer sales people called me back and offered me an E-class; get this, for $1000 BELOW invoice as a starting point for negotiations!
Let me see, the new E-class is only eight months old and dealers are already dipping below invoice to sell these cars!
What does that tell you?
It tells us a few things:
1. the car is not a rousing success like the previous generation car (we told you it wouldn't be, its design is too conservative and mediocre)
2. MB over forecasted the demand
3. The car business sucks right now!
So the first question I ask is "Is there money in the trunk (industry term for a hidden manufacturer rebate) on these cars?" and the answer I got was "No".
Now this is a first...no hidden rebate from MB AND for the first time they're dropping their panties and going in to their normally "untouchable" 5% of MSRP rebate from Mercedes-Benz (Dealers are eligible for this if their CSI (Customer satisfaction index) remains high but they never tell you, because they don't want you to know, they are making profit on the car, the 5% and on their financing as well). So in the old days, when they were selling everything for MSRP and jacking up the financing rates, they were making a _ _ _ _ load of dough on every unit sold.
Looks like the party has ended abruptly!
Back to our deal...
So, the sales guy tells me, a grand under invoice and I'm thinking "cool"!
But wait!
There's more!
Two more salespeople call me and I tell them my deal and they say "So what, we'll sell them for $2000 below invoice!
I can't believe my ears at this point and I say OK, that sounds like a great deal.
So what did we end up doing?
We both bought a 2003 CLK430 convertible!
Why?
Read our article in today's issue about CLK's for 5000+ of MSRP to find out.
