Ferrari S.p.A. has named Flavio Manzoni to be its new design director. Manzoni succeeds Donato Coco who left last year to become director of design at British sports car maker and engineering consultancy Group Lotus.

Manzoni had been Volkswagen AG’s head of creative design immediately before he took on Ferrari’s offer. One of Manzoni’s initial tasks is to strengthen Ferrari’s in-house design. This is a marked change from the past four decades wherein the Fiat S.p.A. subsidiary has relied on Italy’s Pininfarina S.p.A. to pen its cars.
