The U.S. Transportation Department is investigating if there are automakers aside from Toyota Motor Corp. that have problems with unintended acceleration. CTS Corp., Toyota’s supplier of accelerator-pedal assemblies, was asked if there were any other car companies that got accelerator equipment similar to that used by Toyota.
In a letter that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration sent to CTS, the agency said that this information would indicate a safety-related defect in other manufacturers’ vehicles. The NHTSA also wants to determine if CTS sales comply with all legal requirements.
