At the end of the decade, Toyota aims to have hybrid versions of all its European models on sale. The first — the Toyota Auris HSD — will go on sale in the second half of this year. It will be the first car to be fitted with the Hybrid Synergy Drive system.
It is anticipated to account for more than half of all Auris sales. Powering this car is a 1.8-liter petrol engine and a 60kW electric motor powered mated to a 27kW nickel metal hydride battery. The car produces 134bhp in electric-only mode, can run up to 30mph for 1.2 miles.
