BMW chairman Helmut Panke has told German motoring magazine 'auto motor und sport' that the company is considering filling the gap between the BMW 7 Series and the ultra-expensive Rolls-Royce Phantom. He talked about a car costing €250,000 (£170,000), which would presumably be branded as a Rolls-Royce.
While one can understand that there is a gap to be filled, there is precious little difference between a €250,000 car and a €375,000 car - they will appeal to exactly the same buyers. If BMW wants to fill the gap, a new model priced at the level of a Bentley Continental (€180,000) would seem to make more sense.
