So, in this week's "Duh!" we see that Rolls-Royce is planning on expanding into greater China with a new showroom.
Uh, are we supposed to be surprised?
If you have been following AutoSpies you would have noticed that we keep making an emphasis on the importance on China in the automotive industry. While the US' auto sales are lagging behind, China's appear to be on a strong trajectory for growth. Whether or not it is a bubble has yet to be determined.
And if you're not buying it, here are a couple of examples to prove China's role in the auto realm:
1) Buick. General Motors most likely kept the brand alive simply because of its success in Asia. The brand is doing HUGE numbers in Asia right now! Hell, take a closer look at the new Buick Lacrosse, which has some interesting, Asian-inspired design cues.
2) Mercedes-Benz's E-Class. Notice anything Asian-inspired with that butt its got? Oh, and don't forget the Audi A6L, BMW's 5-Series LWB and Mercedes-Benz's stretched E-Class -- all exclusively built for the Chinese market...
