What's Toyota doing to enhance the safety and technology of its vehicles? Toyota invests nearly $1 million an hour on research, development and features, and it’s now the first full-line manufacturer to make the features of the Star Safety System ™ standard on all new vehicles. The Star Safety System ™ is a combination of five accident avoidance technologies, including Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRAC), and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). VSC helps prevent slips and loss of traction by reducing engine power and applying brake force to the wheels that need it. It's another example of what Toyota is doing to enhance the safety and technology of its vehicles. The Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) helps prevent brakes from locking up by "pulsing" brake pressure to each wheel to help you stay in control in emergency braking situations. Brake Assist (BA) detects sudden or "panic" braking and adds the full pressure needed to help prevent a collision. Traction Control (TRAC) helps maintain traction on wet, icy, loose or uneven surfaces by applying brake force to the spinning wheel(s). Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) redistributes brake force to help keep the rear wheels from locking up during sudden braking situations.
