I would not exactly call them fighting words but Volvo may be digging itself in a ditch. Why? Because it sort of just challenged the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7-Series. Think of it as taking off its glove and smacking MB and BMW, while challenging them to a duel.
The problem for Geely/Volvo is that these guys are pros at making high-end luxury cars. Where Volvo may not quite be there. Granted, with the addition of Volkswagen's CEO, Stefan Jacoby, the company will have some support.
Is Volvo barking up the wrong tree or should they give a high-end luxury car a shot?
The new owners of Volvo want to see the company build flagship executive cars to compete directly with BMW and Mercedes.
Speaking shortly after taking control of Volvo from Ford, Geely boss Li Shufu said he wanted to see the Swedish carmaker make more “high level cars that compete with the Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-series..."
