SCION METRO EVENTS MATCHES AMATEUR DJS WITH ICONS OF HIP-HOP

Through the Metro event project, Scion continues its support of emerging talent by matching past winners of the Free Up Your Mix amateur DJ competition with legends of the hip-hop community.

Created in 2003, Scion's Metro event is a free concert series that has built a reputation for staging performances of the most respected names in urban music. Fans of hip-hop across the country have been treated to dj sets by the infamous Biz Markie, Jazzy Jeff, DJ Premier, and Tony Touch to name a few. True pioneers in the hip-hop community, these respected names bring out the new music enthusiasts that any artist would love to reach. This provides a unique platform for the regional winners of Scion's amateur DJ contest, Free Up Your Mix, to showcase their skills alongside hip-hop icons.

"Scion sees a great opportunity to use the success of our Metro events to increase the awareness of promising DJs," says Jeri Yoshizu, Scion sales promotions manager. "By sharing the stage with the legends of hip-hop, we hope these talented artists gain fans and experience that help open new doors."

Beginning in April 2006, past regional winners will perform alongside these legends at events in their respective regions, which include shows in Boston, Mass., St. Louis, Mo., San Diego, Calif., Minneapolis, Minn., Detroit, Mich., and Denver, Colo. In addition, the winners and judges of the Free Up Your Mix competition will perform in Atlanta, Ga., Chicago, Ill., Austin, Tex., Seattle, Wash., San Francisco, Calif., and Washington DC.

Scion's goal to support emerging artists is one that has deep roots in the brand's DNA. Through groundbreaking initiatives like Installation, a tour and gallery space created to provide a national platform for street-artists, and the Scion xPress Fest, a student filmmaker competition that provides film students a real life filmic work experience through the making of a music video, Scion reinforces its commitment to self-expression.
