As we've seen in the past 12 months, the domestic automakers have turned around. Hell, even Chrysler has really gotten its act together with cars like the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2011 Dodge Durango. But when you see what Ford and General Motors is putting together, you can really become astonished.

That's because Ford is putting out cars like the 2011 Ford Edge, which has an awesome graphic user interface, and General Motors is working on projects like the ATS. And if it looks like anything like what they showed 00R in August 2009, it's going to look pretty damn good.

Keeping in mind that Cadillac has brought its "A" game lately -- with the CTS, which has the nicest American interior probably ever -- it seems like Cadillac may have a huge opportunity to go head-to-head with entry-level premium cars like the BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4.

And as we spoke about it the other day, GM's reliability is turning around while European firms are lagging.

With that said, does the upcoming Cadillac ATS have a shot at creating some serious damage to the imports? Should the other automakers be checking their rearview mirrors or do they have nothing to worry about?

Yesterday General Motors announced a $190 Million investment into their Lansing Grand River assembly plant for an upcoming Cadillac small car. While GM brass acknowledged the new Cadillac will be competing with the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class, they neglected to announce a time frame for the car.

Known by the public as the "ATS," this new Cadillac will be the first product to debut on GM's new Alpha rear-wheel drive architecture. According to sources the car will have an all-new four-cylinder engine standard, while GM's 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder and a V-6 will be optional. The V-Series model is expected to carry on the tradition of having a V-8 under the hood...
