Make no doubt, there’s a supercar war of sorts on between the big names in performance. OK, so the likes of Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini have never shied away from taking a dig at one another whenever an opportunity arises, but now it’s getting personal. Sort of.

Speaking at the launch of the latest flagship Porsche, the 911 Turbo, the company’s advisor and spokesman Michael Schimpke casually claims the car is the “fastest car south of the alps,” with the exception of exclusive, hand-built models from specialist low-volume manufacturers.

It was a none-too-subtle prod at the Italian makers who, in turn, don’t mind pointing out that their lower volumes is what creates the exclusivity that makes them more appealing than Porsche’s broader penetration.
