Right before the kick off of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Bertone released pictures of a concept they drew up for Jaguar dubbed the B99. Only problem was that Jaguar wasn't involved. Oh yeah, and Jaguar wasn't exactly feelin' it, apparently.

Though most Spies thought the Bertone take was a pretty good looking one, some commenters noted it was a step backwards since the design reminded them of the older Jags that didn't move too much off dealer lots.

In retrospect, that was a good call and since we've noted that Jaguar has made a departure from its heritage, it seems that Jaguar keeping its distance from the B99 is a good thing.

One of the highlights of this year's Geneva Motor Show was the B99 design study for an entry-level Jaguar sedan by Bertone. The concept car was created independently by the Italian design house, without the involvement of Jaguar. Therefore, the B99 does not preview the design of the future X-Type, as confirmed by a top Jaguar executive...
