With the expected introduction of the 2012 Nissan Versa at the New York auto show next week, the U.S. could lose the last of a breed: the sub-$10,000 car.

For a couple years, Nissan's stripped-down Versa has been the cheapest car in America. Right now, it's still listed on its website at a starting price $9,990 -- a mere 10 bucks under the magic number.
