Ford Motor Co. will build a three-cylinder engine for the first time, Derrick Kuzak, vice president of product development, said today.

The automaker's smallest engine ever will be used in global small cars and will have power output similar to Ford's four-cylinder engines, Kuzak said today at a briefing in Dearborn, where Ford is based.
