As the trend has been bucked since the 348 of the late 1980s and 1990s, it looks like Ferrari's mid-engined V8 will be getting a Spyder variant.

The 458 Italia Spyder is going to be something else. That's likely because its design has been lauded since the 458 made its debut. Said to be the first sexy Ferrari in sometime, it can only get curvier and more exciting with its roof cut off.

Word on the street is suggesting the 458 will benefit from a power, folding soft top convertible and the rendering supports that.

Emerging from the rumormill are talks about Ferrari getting ready to reveal a convertible version of its new 458 Italia supercar at next month's 2011 Frankfurt auto show.

In a new report from Germany's Auto Motor und Sport magazine, sources close to Maranello say that like its predecessor, the 458 Italia Spider will be offered with an electrically operated cloth convertible top that disappears behind the front seats...
