Hot rumors on delivery of Mercedes-Benz 7-speed tranny

Mercedes has introduced the new G7 gearbox to all V8 powered models in the E/S Class ranges from Autumn
2003, but it will be mid 2004 before the smaller diesel and petrol models in the E/S ranges get hooked up to the 7-speed gearbox.
Sadly unless BMW raises it's game and fits the 6-Speed ZF to the current 3-series, you will have to wait until the replacement C-Class for the little Merc to get the new ‘box.
The S-Class and CL will be the first to get the G7 fitted to their S430 and S500 variants but NOT the AMG. At the same time a subtle model shakeup will occur including new DVD Sat/Nav, quality improvement, extra paint colours and at long last - a little tidying up of the confusing options list.
The E430 and E500 will be the first mid-ranger offered with the G7 from September build date onwards. The
E320 is due to expire when Mercedes finally uses up all the old 3.2-litre V6 engines, and from May 2004 you should be able to specify a G7 equipped E350 or any other E for that matter. Suggestions that the four-cylinder models will disappear as they are lacking in performace has been scuppered because the G7 gives them an extra lease of life. The rest of the range (A, C, CLK, M, SLK) will get the new gearbox as and when their individual models are due for a mid life face lift or replacement.
