Well, I didn't see that coming. No, seriously.
Although Hyundai's sister company -- Kia -- makes the Forte Koup, Hyundai has decided to make the Elantra more than just an economical four-door sedan. Now, it will have a sidekick in form of a two-door coupe variant.
In addition, Hyundai has mentioned there will be a sportier SE version -- we imagine it will take some cues from the Forte Koup in terms of additions.
Considering our love for the Elantra this comes as good news; however, you have to start wondering who's going to be a little scared.
Two companies and two cars come to mind:
1) Honda - Civic
2) Scion - tC
Honda's all-new Civic is really not all that grand, at least that's the general consensus from reviewers. Hell, when Consumer Reports -- one of your biggest advocates -- pans the car you know you've got problems. On top of the Japanese earthquake, Thailand's flooding problem, and the CFO admitting it has its work cut out for itself, I can't see the Civic doing to well in this battle.
Scion is a whole other story. While the tC is fresh off an update, which brought some great additions -- supportive seats, awesome three-spoke steering wheel -- it also was much more of the same. The tC's interior, aside from the aforementioned, is not a lovely place to be.
With that said, do YOU think the Elantra Coupe will have enough juice to down its competitors?
