Acura, Honda's luxury brand, needed a small crossover SUV for a simple reason: Forecasts say sales of such so-called entry premium CUVs will explode 551% between now and the end of 2011, hitting 393,000 sales that year.
So Acura, wanting a piece of that action but having nothing in that category, went to the trouble and expense of crafting a new platform — unused by any other Acura or Honda model so far — to create the RDX small CUV, on sale this fall starting at $33,610.
