Drum roll please......
The AutoSpies.com choice for BEST concept on the 2012 LA Auto Show Floor goes to Mercedes Benz with their EnerG SUV concept.
Outside of the new A-Class, there hasn't been a Mercedes design we've been super jazzed about until this futuristic look of what the next generation G-Class could look like.
It's bold, in your face and is the perfect vision for a trend we see coming and that is what we call the mid-size 'MAN SUV's'.
001, what the heck do you mean by that? Aren't ALL SUV's MAN SUV's?
Well that answer would be NO.
There has been a huge homogenization of the SUV market and a lot have become the ride you buy your wife or significant other.
A few that come to mind are the Lexus RX, Infiniti JX, Range Rover and Mercedes GL.
All great rides but they are the antithesis of what the original SUV's were.
And that's why you see guys in the trend areas of the USA, Europe, Saudi Arabia and Asia LUSTING for used Land Rover Defenders, REAL G's, Rubicons and old Ford Broncos.
And they are paying HUGE money not for something that drives great but for IMAGE.
Drive a Defender around town and you're yelling at the top of your lungs to the ladies that you are the BADASS and the REAL man about town.
But the problem is that even though a Defender LOOKS amazing it drives like absolute SH_T.
And as cool as a Jeep Wrangler is (I own one), it's NOT premium enough for the AutoSpies.com demographic.
So look for the manufacturers at the HIGH end to start bringing back modern, more ride palatable versions and the EnerG concept would be one of those.
Now for our pick of the BEST ride at the show that will be available VERY soon, that goes to the 10th Anniversary Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
You all know I drive a Wrangler Sahara as one of my regular rides that I personally own and when I saw the 10th Anniversary Rubicon my heart began fluttering.
I was ready to trade my Sahara ON THE SPOT.
But fortunately for my wallet, it's not in dealers until the Spring of 2013.
Why do I like this so much?
Because it's one of the first Jeep special editions that looks REAL Badass and not FAKE badass like the Call of Duty editions or Mojave to name a few.
Those two look fake and corny to me.
They look contrived.
This 10th Anniversary edition looks authentic to me and the color choices etc. remind me of classic Defender all the way with a cool twist using the red interior.
It's like nothing else out there and SPECIAL.
So there you have it!
Do you agree with us and what were YOUR faves there???

"Your cars are being watched. There is a secret system, a machine that spies on them every hour of every day. I know because I built it. I designed the Machine to detect vehicles but it sees everything. Auto shows, cars in testing, new product introductions involving ordinary people and brands you love. Vehicles like these here. Automotive photos, videos and news the government considers “irrelevant.” No other auto websites or magazines would act so I decided I would. But I needed partners. People like you. Those with the skills to intervene. Hunted by the auto bigwigs, we work in secret. You’ll never find us. But victim or perpetrator, if your vehicle is secret, we’ll find it."
