As fans of Audi's A7 luxury sedan, you can only imagine our excitement when Audi bestowed an S7 upon us.
One, how can you hate an S-line car?
Two, it raised the profile of the already impressive A7.
Now we're in for a real treat as rumors have pinpointed that the U.S. market will receive two all-new RS trimmed vehicles from the four rings. First due -- we're thinking sooner rather than later -- will be the RS5 convertible. Then we'll see the debut of the RS7.
This is a great move for Audi because now it essentially is killing two birds with one stone. What do I mean? Let me spell it out for you.
While I would LOVE to see the RS4 Avant or RS6 Avant make its way stateside, I just don't think it's going to happen at all. Audi just can't make the business case or risk taking a bet when the wagon market is not proven in North America.
It's clear that with the sales success of the A7 -- not to mention its accolades -- that it can launch an RS7 and make everyone happy. It has an M5/M6/CLS63 AMG competitor and buyers finally get their RS. AND, the hardcore Audi enthusiasts who want an Avant get similar utility with the 7's rear hatch design.
That said, check out the latest spy shots from abroad that clearly show an RS7 undergoing developmental testing.
NOTE: Even though it's badged as a Plain Jane S7, it is sporting a new front valence and has those spiffy carbon ceramic brakes. Check out how much larger the wheel/tire setup has to be to fit over that big brake kit!
