Volkswagen plans to broaden its diesel lineup in 2015 with the Golf GTD, the brand's first performance-oriented diesel car for the United States. The GTD, available as a two- and four-door hatchback, borrows the sports suspension from the gasoline-powered Golf GTI. It is powered by a 2.0-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder rated at 184 hp and 280 pounds-feet of torque.
VW says the car will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7 seconds and achieve more than 40 mpg on the highway.
