The new BMW X1 compact SUV has been spotted testing for the first time ahead of a launch in 2015.

Most X1s will be powered by BMW’s all-new three-cylinder, 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, which, company engineers promise, will set new standards for frugality. Higher-powered versions will be offered with 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engines, which are also expected to appear in the future Mini Cooper S.
