Toyota claimed a first World Endurance Championship victory of the season at Fuji in Japan without a lap being run under green conditions.

The win went to the Toyota TS030 HYBRID driven by Kazuki Nakajima through a total of 16 wet laps behind the safety car. The race started under yellows, was halted after eight laps when driving rain made the circuit too dangerous to navigate even at the slow speeds behind the safety car.

The race was restarted and then stopped again when the drizzle turned to driving rain again. A subsequent attempt at a restart was abandoned and the 29-car field left the pit straight only with the intention of going to parc ferme.
