One sport-utility vehicle we've been keeping a close eye on is the all-new Audi Q7. There's a few reasons for this.

Out of the German contingent it seems that a lot of the other guys aren't really doing anything groundbreaking. The all-new BMW X5 is pretty much the same as the old X5. Mercedes' M-Class is not as good as the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Porsche's Cayenne is a great on-road and off-road vehicle but it's massively heavy.

Essentially, Audi's Q7 is next and line and for months now the word on the street is that it will be an innovator. It's said that it will be dropping over 700 pounds, which seems high when it will employing a steel and aluminum structure as opposed to Range Rover who actually did shed the ell-bees via an all aluminum chassis.

In addition, the Q7 is slated to be the first Audi to debut the four rings' all-new design language. As depicted in the cover photo rendering, it's a trapezoidal shape.

Given Agent 001's experience with the all-new RS7, it seems like Audi is on its way to building some even MORE impressive products — as if it hasn't been building great autos already.

The second-generation Audi Q7 is set to arrive next autumn and will rival the BMW X5

The new second-generation Audi Q7 is due to arrive next autumn, with an expected public debut at the Paris Motor Show 2014.

Like the latest Range Rover, the Audi Q7 is expected to shed a significant amount of weight compared to its predecessor, in search of much improved efficiency. A figure of up to 350kg is rumoured, which would drop the base-spec Q7’s weight to just under two tonnes.
