Back at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, we were particularly impressed with one of the domestic offerings making its first time appearance. That would be the all-new Ford Edge that debuted in concept form.
Said to be based off the Mondeo — Fusion — we expect the powertrains to carry over.
What's interesting to note is that our friends at Autocar are expecting the Edge to go upmarket and target the likes of Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This isn't a huge surprise given the Escape and its price but it seems like Ford has a bit of work to do before it enters the luxury space.
In the meantime, scope out the first images of the all-new Edge undergoing developmental testing. From the looks of these shots, the vehicle's undergoing stress testing as it has a trailer hooked up to its chassis.

The Edge SUV is based on the Mondeo, and will form part of a three-strong SUV lineup when it goes on sale, alongside the Fiesta-based EcoSport and the Focus-based Kuga.
While exact powertrain details have yet to be revealed, Ford has said that the Edge will come with a variety of semi-autonomous and driver-assistance technologies. That's likely to include adaptive cruise control, autonomous parking and collision-prevention technologies. Ford's parking aid means drivers can remotely park the Edge, even when outside the vehicle.
Inside, Ford is expected to take the new Edge firmly upmarket, in the hopes of attracting buyers from current premium SUV manufacturers like Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz...
