So you think all dealers are aggressively making deals and the used car market is soft? Take a read through my 3 weeks of negotiation for a 1999 Porsche C4with a Chicago dealer.

My cost on that vehicle is 40900. That is dead cost. If you walked in with 40895 I could not sell you the car. And I know for a fact no one has that car any cheaper. Wholesale on that car is 39900.The car is up to date on service which alone is worth 1200.Its a great buy.

Come on Frank, I won't negotiate against myself.
Didn't that guy trade the car in FEB/MAR? He didn’t go into details but indicated you made big money on the TT deal.
This car has been on the lot for 4 + months. Irrational commitment to inventory is a 'cardinal sin' and not how he ended up with 8+ dealerships. If he is alive, he would be pissed, if he isn't, he is rolling over in his grave on this one!
This is taking too much time....take it to your leader.
Given that we missed the EOM, maybe we can get this done by the end of July. You have the car BUT I have the MONEY, which would you rather have?

What we made on deal or what we did not make is not the issue. The issue is a steal at 40900.Service has been done so that’s another 1200.We have the car at average money. You talked to my leader A before you talked to me. He told me to tell you 41900.So as I have stated before if you came in with 40800 cash I could not take the deal. This car will sell and is a good price at 40900.

What! You have a leader? I thought you were the boss. The way you 'toe the R company line' on your product, you are next in line for VP of Sales but don't miss 'the forest for the trees' on your way up the ladder. It's all about top line sales, the margins are all blended together ... 1500 here or there means nothing.
I would have a tough time starting at 41,900 when it was listed on your web site and in the paper at 40,900 so I am not sure where that came from.
The car has 46K miles. The 45K service (which is an oil change) being performed, is not an expectation, it is a requirement. That, and any other issues fixed on the car for you to get it in sellable condition, are nothing to hold out as a buying incentive on a car, especially if you get them fixed gratis in your own service department.
Unfortunately, according to Westmont, the previous owner did a budget brake job (pads but no rotors), the clutch was repaired (but not replaced b/c there was still some life) and the car will need tires soon. These are the 'money' items that turn your 'great' deal into a big question mark.
Away, the banter is fine but the (lack of) progress has probably gone on too long at this point.

Well your interest has seem to have started a frenzy. So as we have stated 40900 is the selling price, call me and I will have it cleaned up for you. Also 3 of the last 4 calls have asked me why I have it priced so cheap. I would hate to see you lose out on a good deal.

It's only worth what someone is willing to pay, nothing more, nothing less. I will do $39,300, no transfer fees, today. We have been discussing this for over three weeks, maybe 4. The car is still there.

Thank You again for the offer, just another 1600 and were there. We have had only 3 or 4 weeks of good weather that is why the car is still here. If I did not do the 45k service I might have to consider the price, but again the car is a steal at 40900.

Frank -- the 45K service, as you know, is only an oil change. Therefore, even at your very reasonable dealer service prices, which you don’t have to pay, we are only $200 apart from my 39,300 offer.
If the car had a new clutch, tires and rotors I could somehow manage to scrape up another hundred or so but as it stands this is a fair deal at 39,300.

Mark for a minute there I thought you actually knew about Porsche. The 45k service is the most extensive service done. You are required to go over all rings, seals, and gaskets. Trans fluid. oil, and brakes. Timing chain, and belts. I wish it was just oil. Do me a favor call a dealership and ask how much a 45k service would cost you just driving in off the street.40900 etch it in stone.

OK, I was stuck in a BMW / MB 30K/60K world. You are right on that one but its closer to $800 and it is, after all, a cost of the previous deal.
Throw in a clutch (parts only), new rear tires (installed, there is no place to put them), and 4 rotors (no install required) and we are done at your price.

Mark always looking for more, you gotta love it.I thought you said there were a lot of these cars out there. Once again 40900 as is. I personally think you are looking for a new car with all the work you want done. So happy hunting for a "new" 99 with a 97 price tag.
