For years if you wanted a super luxury convertible, there weren't too many choices.
Essentially, the market looked like this:
- Bentley Continental GTC
- BMW 6-Series Convertible
- Jaguar XK Convertible
- Maserati Gran Turismo Converitble
- Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
- Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead
Unless I am missing one or two, that's all I can really think of off the top of my head. Either you were given the options of having a two seater, a two plus none or selling your house.
Well, it looks like Mercedes-Benz is going to provide the market with what it's been looking for: an S-Class Convertible. Although we've been keeping a close eye on it for the past year, it finally has shed a lot of its camo. It's pretty much as clear as day in these shots. I have to say it's nice to see a cloth top rather than a folding metal roof. It would have weighed a TON in this application.
Expect the motors to be carryover and, given how much has been revealed, don't be shocked i it appears for the first time at the 2015 New York Auto Show.
