One sport-utility vehicle I've never been particularly keen on is the Mazda CX-9. To me, it's really a big ass crossover with not-so-good looks. But, here's the rub: the people who own them, LOVE them.

You can't blame them. Mazda makes a pretty damn good product.

Having said that, the CX-9 has gotten long in the tooth. And while all-new SUVs have debuted from the likes of Honda, Toyota and Nissan, the Mazda's been around for what feels like ages. But, that's all set to change in short order.

The only reason we know this is because video of an all-new CX-9 has surfaced. Spied in SoCal undergoing research and development, the all-new CX-9 was video'd sporting black camouflage. Looking like a Mazda 6 that's been jacked up and put into wagon form, to me, it looks like it has potential.

That is, potential to displace other all-new Japanese SUVs. With the 3, 6, CX-5 and CX-3, we know Mazda can knock them out of the park and if the CX-9 inherits the brand's new DNA it will be set for success.

We'll be keeping an eye on this one going forward.
